About this Recipe
The classic Negroni is made with equal parts gin, Campari and sweet red vermouth. It’s bold, bittersweet and usually served over ice with an orange garnish.
For our Sloe Down Negroni, we’ve swapped the gin for Devil’s Dyke Distillery’s award-winning Sloe Gin, bringing a rich berry flavour and fruity sweetness to the glass. We’ve also switched the sweet red vermouth for dry vermouth, which helps balance the sloe gin while letting that distinctive Campari bitterness come through.
The proportions are a little different, too: 20ml each of sloe gin and Campari, with 30ml dry vermouth. The result is a fruitier take on the classic, finished with a twist of orange for a fresh citrus aroma.
It’s a great one to settle into after dinner, especially alongside a cheeseboard. Try it with mature cheddar or blue cheese, and let those bold, savoury flavours play against the sweet fruit and bitter orange.
🍸 How to Make a Sloe Down Negroni
For one cocktail
• 20ml Devil’s Dyke Distillery Sloe Gin
• 20ml Campari
• 30ml dry vermouth
• Orange peel, to garnish
Let’s make it
Add the sloe gin, Campari and dry vermouth to a mixing glass with plenty of ice. Stir until nicely chilled, then strain into a tumbler over one or two large ice cubes. Twist the orange peel over the glass to release its oils, then pop it in.
